I have worked with mathematical modelling and optimisation for many years, and so I have with energy related issues. To a large extent I worked with the two issues simultaneously.
I have a master's degree in engineering and operations research from the Technical University of Denmark, as well as a Ph.D. and a Dr.Techn. degree.
I have worked with mathematics and energy systems in a number of employment positions, in Denmark in the Technical University of Denmark, in Risø National Laboratory, in the Elkraft power company, in the Elkraft System TSO and in the Danish Energy Agency. I also worked a couple of years in México.
I participated in a number of research projects e.g. for the Danish Energy Research Program and for the EU commission.
Since 2003 I have worked in my own one-person company RAM-løse edb, doing essentially the same as before.

1997 – 2002: Elkraft System: In Elkraft System (originally Elkraft) I was project manager in the planning department. Project responsibilities and activities included: Modelling of thermal electrical and combined heat and power units, Economic and environmental analysis of power systems, Reliability analyses, Short term prognosis of wind power production, CHP production and electricity demand, Analysis of power pool prices and international power exchange, Development of the open cource model Balmorel for the analyses of future developments in an international energy sector. Co-advised masters’ and Ph.D. projects related to power system analysis, operation and development in relation to the Technical University of Denmark, Risø National Laboratory, University of Southern Denmark, and Copenhagen University. Co-advisor of two Ph.D. students, including one industrial Ph.D.
1995 – 1997: Risø National Laboratory (‘Risø’): Head of the research program Energy Systems Analysis in the Systems Analysis department, with a staff of approximately 15 persons, including engineers, economist, physicists, Ph.D. students and others. The research projects in the program involved e.g.: development of energy and environmental models, simulation of energy systems, analysis of energy markets, analysis and design of energy policy instruments, life cycle analysis, emission assessment, green house gas inventories.
1994 – 1995: Elsam Power Company: Supporting the company’s capacity building on modelling and analysis. Particular focus was on the international relations, involving large scale simulation and optimisation models for the analysis of hydro-thermal power systems and international electricity exchange. The activities indicate the growing importance of the international relations for the energy sector.
1983 – 1995: Technical University of Denmark: Various positions from post doctorate to associate professor at the Institute of Mathematical Modelling (during the first part of my affiliation called IMSOR, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Operations Research). Teaching and research in operations research, mathematical modelling, numerical methods, optimal control and other optimisation methods. Application to transportation planning, production planning and other traditional operations research topics, but in particular to energy systems, e.g. electrical network restructuring and power and combined heat and power system scheduling. Received A. Angelo's prize. 6 months research visit to Instituto de Investigaciónes Eléctricas in México.
1980 – 1983: Danish Energy Agency: Analysis and administration in relation to energy planning. Main field of responsibility was the analysis of the natural gas system and the integration of this into the national heat planning activities.
1978 – 1979: México: In relation to my Ph.D. study I was 18 months in México. Part of the activity there was directly related to the Ph.D. activity, including studies at the National Autonomous University in México City. Another part consisted in working in the semi-public institution Javier Barros Sierra with scenario building and analyses in relation to transfer of technology.
1976 – 1978: Technical University of Denmark: After finishing the master’s degree I started on a Ph.D. study in relation to the subject of transfer of technology to underdeveloped countries.
